“Chick Webb’s Extraordinary Body of Music” forthcoming in Freak Inheritance: Eugenics and Extraordinary Bodies in Performance, editors Rosemarie Garland-Thomson, Michael Chemers, and Analola Santana, Oxford University Press.

“Jazz Matriarch, Soul on Soul: The Life and Music of Mary Lou Williams By Tammy L. Kernodle; Morning Glory: A Biography of Mary Lou Williams By Linda Dahl” appears in the March/April 2021 Women’s Review of Books.

Many reviews, interviews, and essays have appeared in the Rumpus, Salon, Bitch magazine, AlterNet, the Willamette Week, the Albany Times-Union, and Publishers Weekly and others. I have also read essays on the radio (WAMC.org) and had literary nonfiction published in the G. W. Review, the Saranac Review, Analecta, the anthology Starting Rumors: America’s Next Generation of Writers.

My essay about dog breeds and identity appeared in the book Making Animal Meaning, Eds. Georgina Montgomery and Linda Kalof, Michigan University Press, 2011. Other academic articles have appeared in the International Journal of Comics and Cartoon Art and the Journal of the Short Story in English.


My poems have been published in print editions of Caesura, SLAB, the Connecticut River Review, and were semifinalists in the MacGuffin’s Poet Hunt 2022. The following are online:
